Professor Zhao Xueming served as a full-time professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tianjin University from 1993 to 2015, including as Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering from 1997 to 2003. During his tenure, the school consistently ranked first in China's chemical engineering field for many consecutive years. Over his 22-year academic career, Professor Zhao published more than 200 research papers, and many of his students have become senior professors and experts in the field of metabolic engineering worldwide.

In recognition of Professor Xueming Zhao's foundational contributions to the discipline of metabolic engineering in China through textbook development and talent cultivation, the International Metabolic Engineering Society has established the "Zhao Xueming Lecture Award." This biennial award honors outstanding researchers in the field of metabolic engineering in China and is presented at the "International Metabolic Engineering Summit" held in China.

The winners will be awarded medals and prizes, and invited to deliver a 45-minute keynote speech at the International Metabolic Engineering Summit (scheduled to be held in Dalian, Liaoning from October 18 to 22, 2026).

Professor/Principal Investigator (PI) working at Chinese universities or research institutions and active in the field of metabolic engineering.

The nomination materials must include the following documents:

1. Nomination Letter: Explain why the candidate deserves the Zhao Xueming Lecture Award.

2. A brief resume (no more than 2 pages) and a list of up to 10 representative papers (limited to the field of metabolic engineering).

3. At least one letter of recommendation (can be written by other experts outside the nominating body).
